Calypso will examine Coherent Lagrangian Pathways from the Surface Ocean to interior and is based at a strong ocean front front in the Western Mediterranean Sea. The study will improve predictability of where, how and when surface waters get subducted into the interior. Are there coherent pathways for the water and specific regions for this subduction? What are the rates of subduction and how do they integrate over the region? Where does the subducted water end up?
This blog describes a joint research cruise (the pilot effort) with the NRV ALLIANCE and Research vessel SOCIB from May 26 – June 3, 2018. This pilot cruise will test observational strategies and working in this region of the ocean.
